Whiting Place Memory Care

The Clients have recently purchased a property in downtown Stevens Point, WI and are looking to use it as a nursing home for patients that are suffering with Alzheimer’s. They want to have a space that will support residence in living their life to the fullest. In the contract there are 3 floors total that will be utilized to their fullest and any extra space will be leased for extra income. Residents’ rooms will be located on the second floor and will only be accessible to them and any visitors they may have. The main floor will be semipublic, allowing the restaurant to be used by the public but other areas will be reserved for residents and any visitors they may have. This floor will have most of the outing areas including the restaurant, cafe, salon etc. The last floor being utilized will be the basement and this one will be strictly for residents and their visitors, which will include the activity areas where private events can be planned. All leased spaces will be separated from the residents’ spaces to allow for privacy.

Conceptual Design

Green - Natural Green can promote a relaxing, healing environment for the Residents of Whiting Place Memory Care and can bring tranquility to them in their day-to-day activities.

Blue - Another color of the earth will be used in this project as it represents calmness and serenity, which will hopefully aid the residence with any agitation they may feel on a day-to-day basis.

Beige - To avoid overstimulation of colors a beige color, which represents calmness simplicity and elegance, will be used throughout the entire building.

Orange - Since a lot of colors being used are cooler orange will be sprinkled throughout the design to contrast with blue and provide feelings of happiness, energy and youthful connections.

Renderings

The lobby includes original skylights, lighting fixtures, and flooring to preserve the historical values of the building. There is strip lighting around the recessed ceiling to highlight said features and a custom reception desk that welcomes visitors as soon as they walk through the door. The wallpaper on the back wall will also be used in the basement level lounge to provide some unison.

Lobby

The cafes’ main feature is the historical murals that were originally located in the building when first constructed. The colors of the murals are brought out with the paints and fabrics which unite it with the more modern design. Custom café bar includes an upholstered front with velvet green fabric. Drop down ceiling feature was included to draw attention to café bar paired with gold elements and faux plants.

Cafe

The Recreational area is split into two areas. The first being the organized activity area. This is where events would take place, like bingo, game night etc. This view is of the 2nd space which is the lounge area. This space is where residents can go to socialize or play their own games.

Recreational Area

The worship area is another space that has been split into two spaces. The one that is not shown is a worship area for seated based prayer, which includes Judaism Christianity etc., while the one shown here is for floor-based prayer, like Buddhism, Islam, etc. There are fewer chairs in this space to allow for prayer, but a few are provided incase anyone practicing isn’t able to safely get down. Wallpaper was also placed facing east as a handful of religions pray to that direction and it is also the direction that Muslims would pray towards in Stevens Point.
